For me recovery means freedom, life, integrity
Aaron’s story
I had a 16 year history of alcoholism and poly substance use. At my worst I didn’t have a sober moment for six years. I was in and out of psych units became homeless, slept rough, I was so unwell I ended up in intensive care, in a coma not expected to survive. But somehow I did. Rehab and the 12 steps saved my life.
Being surrounded by people sharing the same aims. Even working at terrible jobs for something to do helped. I worked hard at recovery. I attend meetings and they got me through. Slowly I regained my personal integrity.
The ups and downs are a little harsher, but life is good life.
